Find out how much West Springfield Real Estate is worth

West Springfield was once a small farming community nestled by the hills and forests of Fairfax County, in Northern Virginia. Today it is a growing suburb with modern, attractive real estate. The area was developed in the 1950s, when thousands of moderately priced homes were built as part of the bureaucratic boom that engulfed the nation's capital. Now West Springfield is among the most sought-after communities in the area.

Real estate in West Springfield's charming neighborhoods ranges in price between $170,000 and $800,000, with the average home sold, in January 2006, for $424,295. This typically buys a single-family home of three or four bedrooms, built in colonial style. Some newer properties and town homes are also available. Many houses here feature fireplaces, vaulted ceilings and marvelous wooded lots.

A quiet area of virtually no crime, West Springfield is close to many parks and open areas, a country club with a 36-hole golf course, and the 70-acre Lake Accotink. It is home to a vast array of dinning and shopping options, including the largest shopping malls in the area, the Springfield Mall.

Education needs here are met by the excellent Fairfax County Public Schools System, which boasts excellent performance on standardized tests and high graduation rates. Most students from the area go on to pursue a college degree, and have easy access to topnotch education institutions such as George Mason University and the University of Maryland.

West Springfield is part of a large community called Springfield, which altogether has some 28,000 residents. The history of the Springfield region dates back to 1946 when Realtor Edward R. Carr conceived the master plan for the area. He had studied maps of Northern Virginia and discovered that Springfield had the last sizable accessible tract of undeveloped land within a 12-mile zone around the nation's capital.

The area has boomed in the past decade as Northern Virginia grew into a world center for technology companies. Today, more than 4,000 technology companies have offices in the area, including leaders in aerospace, e-commerce, Internet services, software development and telecommunications.
