Find out how much Warrenton Real Estate is worth

Warrenton, Virginia, the county seat of Fauquier County, is a growing, mostly rural, culturally diverse community of about 7,000 residents. Located about 40 miles southwest of Washington, DC, this area lately has seen an influx of residents, as home prices in Northern Virginia rise, and people move further west in search of more affordable housing.

More so than a commuter suburb, Warrenton is a quiet community with a strong rural, small-town atmosphere. There is little crime, and many active citizen groups that organize events for adults and children to enjoy together, year around.

Public schools in Warrenton include Fauquier High School, two middle and several elementary schools. A handful of private schools can also be found in the area. Local education is qualitative, with schools boasting high performance on standardized tests and a very low drop out rate. Most local students go on to pursue a college degree.

The average property in Warrenton sells for about $280,000, which buys a spacious three of four bedroom single-family home. Warrenton saw most of its development occur starting in the 1960s, so most homes date since then. Some new developments and land for custom building are also available, as are a small handful of historic, old homes.

The popular construction style in the area is of red-brick colonial homes. There are also some rambler style homes, ranch-like properties, and farms. Most properties sell in the range of $100,000 to $490,000, depending on structure, size, and style. Quite a few pricier homes, ranging between half and a million dollars, can be found. Historic homes and ranch-like properties can sell for as high as $2 million, depending on the acreage and condition of the home.

The town of Warrenton was incorporated in 1810 and named for General Joseph Warren, a Revolutionary War hero. Richard Henry Lee donated the land for the county seat. John Marshall, the fourth Supreme Court Chief Justice was from the Warrenton area.
