Tuscarora Real Estate

Once a farming community, but now an evolving suburb, Tuscarora, Maryland is nestled among rolling hills, creeks, forests, battlefields, at the foot of the breathtaking Catoctin Mountains. The serene, beautiful community of just about 200 residents was named for Tuscarora Creek, which was named for the Tuscarora Indians who were driven from the Carolinas by English settlers in the early 1700's.

An old, historic community, Tuscarora offers home buyers the chance to purchase a larger older home--a Victorian mansion, or historic property--for a price ranging between half a million dollars to $825,000. Nevertheless, most available homes here were built since the 1960s, and are three or four bedroom single-family homes built in colonial or rambler style.

The average Tuscarora home sells for about $248,000, which makes it a highly desirable location given the higher average home prices of other Washington suburbs and the general shortage of available land in Frederick County. Because of the location, prices here are still considerably lower than other areas of Maryland and the Washington metropolitan area. At the same time, available properties are gorgeous, with scenic views of the lush surrounding countryside. Some lots are big enough for horses.

Tuscarora is a community prominently consisting of home owners, although there are some renters. Residents are highly educated relative to the average American community, with most having a bachelor's degree or higher. The average income for a Tuscarora household is nearby twice as high as the national average.

Children in the region attend schools in the award-winning Frederick County Public School system, which boasts high test scores on national standardized tests, and excellent graduation rates. Most high-schoolers from the area go on to pursue a college degree.

Tuscarora is in close proximity to several communities, including the picturesque Point of Rocks, Adamstown and Buckeystown. The general area was settled by English migrants in the 1700s, and many historic sites and monuments remain from that era.
