Find out how much St Charles Real Estate is worth

Saint Charles, Maryland, is a 10,000-acre planned community that has a mushrooming population of about 24,000 residents. Saint Charles is a region rich in history with numerous historic sites for residents to enjoy. In its early history, the area of Saint Charles was populated by the Piscataway Native Americans and other tribes. Their life before European contact is well documented at the Maryland Indian Cultural Center in neighboring Waldorf.

The community is divided into neighborhood villages, and each village features tree-lined streets and low crime. Parks offering fishing, swimming, hiking, walking and picnicking opportunities abound. Saint Charles also offers miles of paved trails and paths for biking and jogging. The community offers K-12 students access to excellent public schools through the Charles County system, and at several nearby quality private schools. Local students tend to score high on national tests and most of the graduate high school.

Higher education is available at dozens of top-notch colleges and universities in the Washington metropolitan area, including the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins University.

Real estate in this community is mostly comprised of single-family homes and row houses, built during the 1960s. A number of the homes are attached units. In January 2006, the average property sold for $301,050 and is typically a three or four bedroom home. Most real estate ranges in price between $170,000 and $330,000, although some larger properties on wooded lots sell for as high as $650,000. A few small row homes are also available for under $170,000.

Saint Charles is a comfortable commute to Washington, DC, which is about 30 miles away. This makes it a popular community among commuters, many of whom work for the federal government or contracting firms. The average age of a resident is 32, and the average household income is $56,757, or about $13,000 higher than the national average. About a quarter of Saint Charles residents age 25 and older have a bachelor's or advanced college degree.
