Oakton Real Estate

Oakton, an affluent suburb Washington, DC has approximately 31,000 residents. This suburb is a good option for folks looking for peace and quiet, but also near culture, nightlife, and the political and businesses connections of the nation's capital. The area abuts Vienna, Virginia, a historic, affluent suburban community that CNN/Money and Money magazine ranked fourth on the list of the 100 best places to live in the United States last year. Oakton shares Vienna's history, high quality of life, plentitude of jobs, historic sites, excellent schools, and variety of housing.

The average home sold in Oakton for $560,600 in January 2006. Oakton features large new homes ranging from 3,000 to over 8,000 square feet. These homes are located on scenic one to two acre wooded home sites and are a favorite among golfers. The majority of residences are single family homes. The topography is rolling, wooded and secluded with many equestrian ranches.

The region also has several assisted living facilities, some of which are ranked among the best in the nation. The area is also well regarded for the educational district, where 99% of high school seniors receive diplomas, and 96% plan higher education.

Many of the residents here are descendants of early American immigrants from Germany, Ireland and Britain. This explains the presence of a fairly active historic society, which caters to those ancestries by organizing festivals and other recreational activities with German, Irish and British influences.

Oakton is a community rich not only in history but nature. The Chain Bridge Road, a curvy, beautiful road nestled within the forest along the Potomac River is a favorite drive among locals, and a good circumvention of what can be fairly congested highways leaders to Washington, DC.

Oakton is also home to or in close proximity to several wild bird center and societies, where bird lovers can see and learn about their favorite wild life. Among these groups are the Fairfax Audubon Society and the National Capitol Bird Club.
