North Potomac Real Estate

North Potomac, Maryland, nestled between the wealthy enclaves of Bethesda and Potomac, offers many of the same amenities of those prestigious communities, but at more affordable rates.

While the average home in neighboring communities is about $1.56 million, in January 2006 the average home in North Potomac sold for $539,800. This buys a single-family home of three or four bedrooms that was built in the past decade over what used to be vast farm lands.

Developed in the early 1980s, North Potomac has named its new housing developments after the farms that they replaced. Most properties are on ample two to five acre lots, making homes here slightly larger than the average property in Washington's suburbs.

Most available units range in price from $352,000 to $900,000 and are cul-de-Sac brick homes, or colonial style properties. A few select ranch-like properties are available for more than $1 million, and select smaller condo units can be found in apartment complexes for less than $300,000. About 23,000 residents call North Potomac home. The average household income is just under $100,000.

Education is a community priority, which is reflected in the local prestigious Montgomery County public K-12 schools that boast high teacher to pupil ratios, good performance on national standardized tests, and excellent graduation rates. Most high school graduates from North Potomac go on to pursue a college education.

Popular hangout spots in North Potomac include Travilah Square and the newer shopping center Fallsgrove, often referred to as T Sq 2. Travilah Square, long the area's only shopping center, is now faces competition from new lifestyle centers, which contain a multitude of retailers, from grocery stores to boutique shops.

Residents also have access to the exclusive dinning and shopping – as well as culture and entertainment – in nearby Bethesda and Potomac. The region offers a lower than the national average unemployment rate, while job growth is faster than in other communities.
