Find out how much Merrifield Real Estate is worth

Merrifield, just 12 miles outside of Washington, DC in Fairfax County, is an excellent choice for commuters to work in the nation's capital, or in closely neighboring Northern Virginia suburb.

Merrifield, home to just over 11,000 residents, is a convenient, peaceful, low-crime area to live in. It offers some of the best ranked K-12 schools in the nation, which boast high test scores and graduate rates for its pupils. Most local teenagers go on to pursue a college degree, and enjoy proximity to an array of higher education institutions and topnotch law schools such as George Washington, Georgetown, George Mason, and American universities.

Aside from not being too far a driving distance from Washington, Merrifield is well connected through a metro station. Sharing its name with neighboring community Dunn Loring, the Dunn Loring-Merrifield stop on the orange line can take commuters into downtown Washington in about 20 minutes or less.

While Merrifield has some old homes dating back 100 years, most of its real estate was erected during the 1970s. The 1990s also saw some construction of complexes and high rises. The average house ranges from three to five bedrooms, and sells for roughly $300,000.

The activities and attractions Merrifield offers prospective home buyers and residents range from exciting cultural events and historic sites to a vast array of shopping and year-round recreation. Outdoor activities include golfing, canoeing, jogging, and picnicking. Concerts in the park, boating, fishing, and bird watching are also favorite pastimes.

The larger area was settled in the late 1800s, and some of the first homes built here are still standing. Among them is the Taylor Hour in Dunn Loring, built in 1887, which served as an Army store. A large red barn, windmill, and lumber shop are also available for visits, and some offer educational programs and activities.
