Ijamsville is a small community of about 6,000 residents located some 40 miles outside of Washington, DC in Maryland's Frederick County. The area has historic roots, dating back to the 1700s. It has been in the past 50 years that it evolved from a farming community to a suburban region that retains its clean air and spaciousness.

Most real estate here was developed between the 1960s and 1980s, but there are many newer homes, many of them under construction or planned. The average home here in this area sold for $594,966, in November 2005. Average homes are three or four bedroom single-family residences. Most properties are elegant colonials. There are also a number of ranches, as well as newly built homes with mountain views. Available housing ranges in price between $240,000 and $700,000, with some larger homes selling for more – as high as $1.2 million.

The percentage of people without work here is lower than the national unemployment rate. Ijamsville has a growing economy, which is projected to create a number of jobs three times higher than the average American community in the near future.

The community derives its name from an earlier form, Ijams' Mill, a grist mill built by John Ijams, who settled the area. Around Ijamsville are several pick-your-own orchards where visitors can pick and purchase all sorts of fresh fruit-- apples, peaches, plums, berries and vegetables. There area also has apple cider, flowers, and a selection of homemade canned fruits, preserves, jams, and honey. A couple of wineries are located in the region as well.

Ijamsville residents enjoy close proximity to the history town of Frederick, Maryland's second largest city. Historic sites dating back to the Revolutionary War are scattered around this city that is a joy to walk around with its picturesque architecture and sense of preserving the past.
