Franconia Real Estate

Franconia is a fast growing bedroom community some 15 miles outside of Washington, DC, in Fairfax Country. About a third of its 32,000 residents are over the age of 50. The population growth among that age group has been faster than any other in recent years.

Franconia, a subdivision of Alexandria, has a lot to offer its residents and potential newcomers, and that is just one of the reasons why CNN Money and Money magazine last year ranked it among the best 100 places countrywide where to live and retire.

With its proximity to the nation's capital, Franconia is just minutes away – via car, bus or metro – from hundreds of multi-cultural activities, historical attractions, sporting events, fine shopping and dinning, and year-round recreational festivities for people of all ages to enjoy.

The area has a very low crime rate, and excellent K-12 schools that boast a favorable teacher to student ratio, high standardized test scores, and an excellent graduation rate. Most high schoolers from Franconia go on to pursue a college degree and benefit from a proximity to higher education institutions including George Mason and George Washington universities.

Franconia real estate is mostly made up of owner occupied single-family homes. Historic properties, colonial estates and contemporary developments are also available and vary in price depending on size, location, and structure. A select few condominiums and townhouses are also for sale. The median house value is about $338,000.

Franconia residents work hard to preserve a community feeling. Several civic organizations are active, as well as a museum and historic society that keep the past alive. The neighborhood's nearness to the Potomac River makes it a favorite for those interesting in boating, fishing, and swimming. Picnic areas in the region abound, not just along the river but also in various national, state, and city parks.
