East DC Real Estate

Northeast Washington, DC, is a culturally diverse section of the nation's capital that puts some of the area's most powerful movers and shakers within blocks away from some of the nation's poorest communities.

Northeast Washington features historic monuments like the U.S. Library of Congress, the Supreme Court, Union Station, and Eastern Market. It is served by metro stations at Brookland and Rhode Island Avenue. The area is home to the growing 12th Street shopping corridor, a large cinema complex, and RFK Stadium. In coming years it will also become home to the city's first baseball stadium.

By far the most popular neighborhood within Northeast Washington is Capitol Hill. Stretching for a dozen blocks east of the Capitol Building along Pennsylvania Avenue, this area is home to many Congressman, young urban professionals, and families with children. The Hill, as it is commonly referred to, has a flavor quiet distinct from other DC areas. It is highly political, with an atmosphere of network and no nonsense.

Most properties here sell in the range of $330,000 to $650,000 in Northeast Washington, but the market has something for everyone. In areas east of the Anacostia River, properties can be found for as little as $75,000. However, this region also offers single-family homes along East Pennsylvania Avenue that are fantastic architectural gems.

Homes in the range of $170,000 and $330,000 can be found all throughout the northern section of Northeast Washington. Capitol Hill properties can sell for upwards of $1.7 million for larger, statelier historic homes, or for about $380,000 for a single-family home that make need some renovation.

Areas like Brookland, which houses the Catholic University of America, are much more affordable, with a median home price of just under $200,000. Many beautiful, historic homes can be found in this quiet community of tree lined streets and numerous community parks. Many college students reside here, because of the university, as do long-time DC residents including families, retirees, and young professionals.

Unlike downtown DC, which is experiencing a lot of new housing construction, most of the work in Northeast Washington is on renovation. Young professionals and families with no children have been investing in older homes and working to turn them around into homes with modern appliances and a new coat of paint.
Northeast Washington is easily one of the most historic communities in the nation, because of its high concentration of historic sites and monuments, residents of high statue, and variety in architectural styles.
