Dunn Loring Real Estate

Dunn Loring is a small neighborhood covering two square miles in Fairfax County. A suburban bedroom community of Washington DC, most of its nearly 8,000 residents commutes out of the area for work in the Fairfax technology sector, or Washington's federal government district.

The area is close to Washington International Dulles Airport, and has convenient access to that travel gateway as well as Washington via its proximity to I-66. It also has its own metro station, sharing with the neighboring community of Merrifield, on the Orange Line.

Dunn Loring is a convenient, peaceful area to live in, and its real estate market is as unique as the town itself. Two- or three-level colonial townhouses range in price from $200,000 to $650,000 and more. Two- or three-bedroom single-family detached homes for sale range in price from $300,000 to $700,000 and more. Larger colonial estate properties and newer luxury executive homes for sale start around $800,000. Prices for these types of properties can exceed $5 million. There are also historical properties, and land and lots for custom building.

Dunn Loring is a fairly affluent area with a very low crime rate. The median household income is in the six digits, and the median house is just under half a million dollars. The area's tree lined streets and active citizen groups make it a clean, friendly neighborhood.

Local residents have a higher level of education, based on the number of residents with master's degrees or higher, that the average American community. As such, the community places value on education and has produced some of the nation's top notch K-12 schools. Class sizes are small, teacher to student ratio's high. The vast majority of high schoolers graduate, and most of them go on to pursue college degrees.

Dunn Loring also offers its residents a wide array of activities and attractions ranging from exciting cultural events and historic sites to shopping and year-round outdoor recreation such as golfing and canoeing. Concerts in the park, boating, and bird watching are also favorite pastimes.

The community has settled in the late 1800s, and some of the first homes built here are still standing. Among them is the Taylor House, built in 1887, which served as an Army store. A large red barn, windmill, and lumber shop are also available for visits, and some offer educational programs and activities.
