District Heights “the City that cares,” Maryland, is a quiet, established, densely populated community of about 7,000 residents. Located less than 10 miles outside of the nation's capital, it is a bedroom community for workers who commute to jobs into northeast Washington and Capitol Hill. District Heights residents send their children to relatively well performing K-12 public schools, which boast favorable class sizes and high graduation rates. Most graduates choose to pursue a college degree, and can do so at one of many prestigious colleges and universities in the area, including the University of Maryland-College Park and Georgetown University. District Heights has a lively economy, and job growth here exceeds by nearby twice the national job creation rate.

The city of District Heights, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1986, is home to a tight-knit community that has several active citizens organizations which organize activities for adult and children to enjoy alike. Last year, District Heights organized its first Jazz and Arts Festival, an event that the city has now decided to carry out as an annual tradition.
