Dickerson Real Estate

Dickerson, a rural suburban community located about 35 miles outside of Washington, DC, is home to about 3,000 residents who live in several distinct neighborhoods. The area sits along and in part at the top of a ridge with views of Sugarloaf Mountain to the north and the Catoctin and Blue Ridge Ranges to the west.

The community offers residents a high quality of life, with low crime, and excellent K-12 schools for residents – most of whom are families – to send their children. Although the general area has some historic roots, Dickerson was mostly developed since the 1950s. Real estate is mostly made up of three or bedroom classic colonial homes, some made of red brick, which are built on lots as tight as 2.5 acres to as spread out as 9 acres.

The median price for a home in Dickerson is about $402,000. Properties sell for a wide array of prices ranging from $170,000 to $650,000. Nearly a fifth of real estate sells for more – between $650,000 and $1.3 million for some of the statelier homes and large farms.

The community is made up prominently of home owners, although there are some renters. Dickerson residents are highly educated relative to the average American community, with most residents having a bachelor's degree or higher.

The region incorporates several smaller communities, including Barnesville, which sits perched atop a ridge overlooking Sugarloaf Mountain. This community of about 200 residents has the motto "A caring community,” a testament to the sense of place enjoyed by Barnesville's residents, who are predominantly families with children. An affluent pocket of the general area, the median household income in Barnesville is $101,325, or close to triple the national average.

Neighboring Beallsville is another niche real estate market within the area of Dickerson. An even smaller community of about 115 residents, this neighborhood is equally affluent and offers some stately homes and farms. Boyds, a community of some 1,000 residents, is another community within the larger area of Dickerson. Mostly established real estate is available here.

As part of Montgomery County, Dickerson enjoys access to some of the county's best ranked public schools. Neighboring towns also offer private schools where some of Dickerson's residents opt to send their children.
