Brookeville Real Estate

The Brookeville community served as the nation's capital for a day, August 26, 1814. The British invaded Washington, DC and President James Madison fled the White House. The community is a wealthy suburb located about 20 miles outside of the nation's capitol. Near Silver Spring and the Glenmont Metro station, Brookeville is well suited to commuters who travel to and from Washington for work.

With a population of about 6,500 residents, Brookeville is a spread out town covering some 24 square miles. This means that most real estate consists of large, of three to five bedrooms homes, and cover sizeable land lots that make for beautiful gardens and yards.

It also means that the neighborhood is a popular choice for families with children, who enjoy a great education at the area's public K-12 schools. Ranked among the nation's best, local schools offer a favorable teacher to pupil ratio, relatively small classroom sizes, and high performance on national standardized tests. The vast majority of high schoolers earn a diploma, and most of them go on to pursue a college degree.

The average home in Brookeville, which boasts a very low crime rate, in January 2006 sold for $501,350. Most homes are built since the 1960s, but there are established older homes and historic properties. There is also new construction that offers style, gourmet kitchens, garden baths and lovely architecture. Some farms are available as well.

Most homes are valued between $445,000 and $650,000, but some properties for as low as $200,000 are available, as well as some statelier homes and estates that fetch as much as $2.5 million. The average Brookeville resident has a college degree, and an income higher than $100,000, which is more than twice the national average. The area was settled in the 1700s, but remained as a small community until the mid-1900s.
