Braddock Heights Real Estate

Braddock Heights, Maryland, is a town named after General Edward Braddock. General Braddock was sent from England to stop the French from acquiring land claimed by the British. On April 29th, 1755, Gen. Braddock and his escorts, which included a young Lt. Col. George Washington, left Frederick town, stopping at a spring along the road (now known as Braddock Heights) that became the National Pike. They continued through Middletown Valley turning south to Sharpsburg before heading towards Fort Duquesne where General Braddock was mortally wounded during an ambush seven miles from the fort on July 9th, 1755.

One hundred years ago, the town served as a summer resort for the residents of Washington D.C. and Baltimore. Equipped with summer cottages, a skating rink, bowling alley, pool, amusement park, observation tower, dance halls, a trolley system and much more, Braddock Heights was a favorite vacation spot. Today, much has changed in this town, and Braddock Heights is home to about 10,000 residents.

Today, the town is located about 48 miles outside of Washington, DC, and is about 3 miles away from its twin city, Middletown. The median household income here is $71,932, almost three times the national average. Nearly 40% of all residents hold a bachelor's degree or higher. Students are well served by the excellent schools, low teacher-student ratios, and nearly 100% of students graduate from high school and more than 90% go on to seek higher education.

The area is spread out over 7.4 miles, with farms and spacious properties. The residents are a mix of rural farmers, along with executive and professional workers who commute to the urban regions. Within this small community, there are few historic homes available, along with land for custom builders. There are some sprawling estates valued over $1 million, but also single family homes and town homes are available.

Braddock Heights takes pride in retaining small-town charm and ideals in an era of growth. From stately Victorian homes and skyward-reaching church steeples to rustic dairy farms and modern housing developments, you will feel right at home from the start.
