Boyds Real Estate

Boyds, Maryland, a once vast land of dairy farms, remains a closely-knit agricultural community but has recently also evolved into a more modern suburb of Washington, DC. Established around 1876, Boyds today is a community of just under 2,000 residents who enjoy country-like living in a driving distance to urban and historic sites, including the nation's capital. The community boast virtually no crime, clean air, and excellent schools.

Boyds is in the vicinity of several private schools. As part of Montgomery County Public School System, residents can also enroll their children to prestigious K-12 public schools, which boast high test scores on national tests, a favorable teacher to student ratio, and excellent graduation rates. Most high schoolers go on to pursue a college degree.

Boyds' high quality of life atmosphere attracts a growing number of new residents, which has led to some new real estate development. Nevertheless, the average single-family home in Boyds was built between the 1960s and 1980s. In January 2006, the average single family home or condo sold for $757,568.

The market here offers a wide variety of size and price. Most properties range in price between $400,000 and $900,000, encompassing everything from split level town home units and apartments in high rise buildings to colonial homes of six bedrooms and vast gardens. Many properties offer scenic views of the lush surrounding countryside and some lots are big enough for horses. The latter sell for just over $1 million. Some farm and ranch properties are available for that price as well.

Most people in Boyds own their home, but there are also some renters, who pay a premium rental rate of about $1,200. Residents are families with children, or singles, many of whom commute for work to and from Washington each day.
