Annandale Real Estate

Annandale is one of the oldest areas of Virginia, dating back to 1685. Originally named Ravensworth, after the name of a large plantation that covered about 24,000 acres, the region was renamed to Annandale sometime in the 1830s.

Part of the Fairfax County Public School System, children studying in Annandale schools enjoy some of the most qualitative education in the nation. Higher education is easily accessible in nearby George Mason University, University of Maryland, and several topnotch universities within Washington, DC. Annandale is also home to the oldest and largest branch of the Northern Virginia Community College.

Annadale is fairly densely populated and mixed between renters and owners. The real estate market is comprised of complexes and high rise apartments with an average of two bedrooms, and ranges in price between $170,000 and $750,000. The median home price in January 2006 sold for $418,000. Some single-family homes and row houses are also available. Some units of special character sell for as high as $825,000.

About half of Annandale residents hold a Bachelor's degree or higher, and the median income is $72,000. The crime index is lower than the national average. These factors make Annandale a great place to buy a new home.

Annandale is a culturally diverse community. Downtown Annandale was recently named "The Annandale Village Centre" by civic officials. Downtown is home of an eclectic small business climate offering a wide array of specialty stores and boutiques.

The community, located about 12 miles outside of Washington, is home to 55,000 residents who commute for work to the nation's capital, or other Northern Virginia communities.
